Current sermon series: Somewhere In Between

by Mike Vandermause on August 14, 2015

Our current sermon series that started on Aug. 16 is entitled “Somewhere In Between” and pastor Troy Murphy is blowing up some of the stereotypes we hold as Christ followers.

Troy is looking at Acts 17 and examining Paul’s faith journey and how he approached people in the world. Paul felt the angst about what was happening in culture, which included a lot of idol worship. But instead of picketing them or trying to shout them down, Paul dialogs with them.

Our culture has gotten conditioned to hearing sound bites or pieces of information about people or situations and stereotyping them. Things are viewed in black and white terms, when in fact we need to explore what lies in the middle of the hearts of people and be able to engage them in conversation.

In the series Troy will try to answer this compelling question: “How do we get our church culture to enter into a conversation with the world?

We must remember that Jesus didn’t sequester himself from the world. Instead, he hung out with sinners. Paul also engaged in the culture. Our key goal as Christ followers is to get out in the world and have conversations and not stereotype people.

Some other questions that will be explored in this series:

*What is my motivation to talk to people?

*How do we value people enough to learn about them?

*How do we see people as we learn about them?
