Brian Houston is the founder and global senior pastor of Hillsong Church. He was interviewed by Bill Hybels at the Global Leadership Summit this year. Here are some of the key points from that conversation:

*I’m a huge believer in the potential of the church and everything it can be. The church is reliant on God. It keeps going forward, and it’s not just about any one person. When Jesus said he would build his church, he really does build it.

*Who you start a church with is not necessarily who stays with it. If you take time and invest in people, it’s amazing who God brings to the forefront.

*Ecclesiastes 3 talks about seasons. We’re all only here for a season, so let’s give God our best during this season. We should never try to hold on to people who don’t want to be here. 

*I love what I do. I love the the Lord. I love the church. I love people ultimately. I guess that motivation has never left me. Even in the darkest days and facing the biggest challenges, I have never gotten away from the vision God put in my heart. I keep getting up again after getting knocked down.

*Longevity is the greatest strength someone can have as a leader because you love people and have great impact on people. 

*Leadership is like walking on water. Only God can keep you up.
